We brought together more than 150 people to offer a broad vision of the situation of this crop in Portugal
At Semillas Fitó we reaffirm our commitment to Portugal regarding the development of tomato cultivation in the country and the horticultural sector in general. On this occasion, this firm support was demonstrated with the hosting of the 1st Encontro de Tomate organized by Semillas Fitó which brought together more than 150 people connected in one way or another to this crop.
The event, held on 26 May, was comprised of a series of opening presentations, which, together with the subsequent round table, offered a clear overview of the situation of this crop and the state of its commercialization in Portugal.
The Spanish researchers Antonio Monserrat and Pablo Bielza, gave a detailed explanation of the main phytosanitary problems that affect this crop and the agronomic solutions that must be implemented to control these.
The round table was moderated by Carla Miranda, from the company Hortorres/Hortafina, who was able to get most out of the different speeches that were offered by representatives of the sector on topics as diverse as the Farm to Fork Strategy, organic production in relation to the new European regulations and consumer trends that move the market today and that affect the cultivation of tomatoes and their commercialization.
Without a doubt, this first edition of the Encontro de Tomate, led by the Iberia sales team, was a singular event, which positions Semillas Fitó as a benchmark in tomato cultivation in Portugal and connects it directly with the different stakeholders of the fruit and vegetable sector in that country, offering a demonstration of the company’s experience and knowledge at all levels, from the production of the seed, through the development of the crop and to the commercialization of the fruit.
